About the opportunity

Industrial Design & Technology (IDT) plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of hands-on, practical learning experiences for students engaged in technical and industrial subjects. This position assists teachers in ordering, preparing, maintaining, and organising workshop spaces, tools, and materials to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. By providing operational and instructional support, the School Officer contributes to a dynamic educational experience that equips students with essential skills for future careers in trades, engineering, and creative industries. This role is responsible for implementing and updating safety policies and procedures within the workshop in line with legislative and BCE requirements.

 

In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the planning, preparation and delivery of effective learning and teaching programs for students including the use technology and learning support activities
  • Monitoring the progress of students and identifing learning areas to provide evidence-based intervention strategies
  • Improving student learning outcomes by providing support and advice on supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Collaborating with school specialists in organising and assisting with intervention groups to coordinate services
  • Documenting observation notes, intervention programs and assist in the collation and preparation of classroom materials
  • Student Support - Assist students with practical tasks, offering guidance on correct tool usage, problem-solving techniques, and safe work practices
  • Workshop & Equipment Management - Maintain a safe, organised, and well-stocked workshop space, ensuring tools, machinery, and materials are readily available for student learning activities
  • This job requires physical capabilities, including the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy objects safely at times
  • Safety Compliance - Promote and enforce occupational health and safety standards, ensuring all students adhere to safety procedures when handling tools and equipment Lesson
  • Preparation & Support - Assist teachers in setting up materials, equipment, and demonstrations for practical lessons, ensuring smooth lesson delivery
  • Equipment Maintenance - Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of workshop tools and machinery to ensure operational efficiency and longevity
  • Classroom & Workshop Supervision - Provide additional supervision and support during practical sessions, ensuring students remain engaged and follow instructions correctly
  • Stock Management & Ordering - Monitor supplies of materials such as timber, metal, and consumables, facilitating reordering when necessary
  • Administrative Support - Maintain workshop records and safety documentation including Workplace, Health & Safety documentation online and ordering and receiving of stock through Buying Platform
  • Collaboration with Teachers - Work closely with educators to align support strategies with curriculum objectives, enhancing student learning outcomes
  • Assisting in Grounds Maintenance - Support basic maintenance tasks around the school, including minor landscaping, tool upkeep at the direction of the Business Manager or Leadership

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:

  • Strong skills in planning, preparing, and delivering effective teaching programs
  • Ability to monitor student progress and apply evidence-based interventions
  • Expertise in supporting diverse learning needs to improve student outcomes
  • Collaborative skills to work with specialists and coordinate intervention groups
  • Proficient in documenting observations, managing intervention programs, and preparing classroom materials
  • Certificate III in Education Support
  • For this position you are not required to be Catholic
  • Knowledge and experience in a similar roleAny trade or technical qualifications is desirable such as a background in woodworking, metalworking, engineering, automotive, or construction-related trades
  • White Card (Construction)
  • Knowledge and experience in Workplace, Health and Safety
  • Student Engagement & Support - Skills in assisting students with hands-on tasks, guiding them through practical projects, and fostering a positive learning environment
  • Workshop & Resource Management - Capability to maintain workshop organisation, inventory tracking, and equipment upkeep for efficient operations
  • Safety Awareness & Risk Management - Ability to enforce and promote safe practices, ensuring compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations within the workshop
  • Communication & Collaboration - Effective teamwork and communication skills to liaise with teachers, students, and staff while supporting educational objectives
  • Computer & Administrative Skills - Competency in using digital systems for ordering supplies, managing WHS documentation, communicating and emailing and maintaining workshop records.

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
  • Hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
