Summary
Provide effective and efficient services across the Science Department, developing and overseeing a variety of tasks while offering advice, training, and support. The Senior Science Laboratory Officer provides effective and efficient support across the Science Department, ensuring the safe, compliant, and smooth operation of laboratory activities and resources.

About the opportunity
In this position you will be responsible for:
- Developing and/or administering processes and procedures, and responding to enquires across the Science Department
- Reviewing and developing local systems and providing recommendations for enhancement
- Maintain a chemical stock register, monitor chemicals, ensure provision of associated supplies, obtain quotes and prepare orders for equipment, consumables and materials as required
- Demonstrate laboratory techniques to students and assist science teaching staff with demonstrations and in the instruction of students on use/care of equipment during science experiments and field trips
- Reading and understanding appropriate MSDS's to complete risk assessments using software such as ChemWatch and Risk Assess
- Preparing and maintaining science practicums/experiments consistent with the science curriculum
- Assist with annual stock takes, audits, unpacking and accessioning new stock, equipment maintenance, preparing material for student use, filing/clerical tasks, assist with student displays of work
- Monitoring resources within the Science Department, including the maintenance/storage of equipment, cleaning and disposal and WHS obligations
- Assist with the organisation of events such as Evening Expos, Open Days and Gala Days
- Supervising and training support staff as required.
About you
To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:
- Process and procedure development and administration
- System review and enhancement, identifying areas for improvement
- Proficiency in preparing and maintaining science experiments and practicals that align with the curriculum, ensuring safe and effective learning environments
- Resource management and WHS compliance
- Staff supervision and training
- Certificate in science or related field
- A proactive, self-motivated individual who takes pride in their work
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong technical knowledge in science
- Ability to work independently
- Strong time management skills
- Cert III in Laboratory Skills at a minimum
- For this position you are not required to be Catholic.
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
- Hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
