Summary

Use your expertise to advise on and manage the school’s risk and compliance systems to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Location: St Mary MacKillop Primary School, Birkdale
  • Start date: Commencing June, 2025
  • Work hours: 21 hours per week 
  • Salary: School Officer Level 5, $39.44 + super (School Salary Scale)
  • Status: Permanent | Term-time (Extra hours/days of work may be offered throughout the term)
  • The position will also undertake responsibilities as a WHS Officer

About the opportunity

In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the development, maintenance and operations of relevant systems and resources and recommending improvements to processes and procedures.
  • Developing and interpreting legislation, regulations, procedures and other guideline material relating to operations within the school.
  • Delivering and advising staff, students, and the school community on policy updates and publishing via appropriate channels.
  • Facilitating the completion and report on risk and compliance tasks through the appropriate avenues
  • Advising and facilitating the conduct of risk assessments by responsible staff members for school events.

 

You will also undertake responsibilities as a WHS Officer which include but are not limited to:

• Implementing communication and consultation initiatives and awareness of WHS requirements
• Assisting in the investigation of HSW issues or incidents across schools
• Assisting in the development and review of Health and Safety requirements and associated documentation for schools
• Consulting with management and stakeholders on their schools (or office) WHS performance
• Assist in the identification and management of risk
• Assist in health and safety consultation activities
• Conduct and assist workers to conduct regular health and safety inspections and risk assessments
• Investigate health and safety incidents and dangerous events to prevent recurrence.

About you

To be successful in this position you will hold/have/or be prepared to obtain as well as bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:

  • Certificate IV Workplace Health and Safety Certificate.
  • Expertise in developing, maintaining, and improving operational systems and processes.
  • Strong understanding of legislation, regulations, and guidelines to interpret and apply within a school setting.
  • Ability to communicate policy updates clearly to a wide variety of groups and stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing and reporting on risk and compliance tasks effectively.
  • Skilled in advising and facilitating risk assessments for events.
  • Tertiary qualification at Associate Diploma/Diploma in a related field
  • For this position you are not required to be Catholic.

 

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements: 

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment 
  • Hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
