About the opportunity

 

In this position you will be responsible for: 

  • Maintain gardens, grounds, lawns, and playing surfaces, including top dressing, seeding, turfing, coring, planting, trimming, mulching and fertilising.
  • Prepare ovals for sporting events and carnivals, including laying out and line marking playing fields.
  • Supervise, maintain and participate in the installation, operation, and maintenance of pumps, irrigation equipment, and drainage systems.
  • Manage the safe distribution and application of organic and chemical pesticides, sprays, and fertilisers, including correct storage and recording.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of specialised machinery and equipment for lawns, turf, and playing fields, and routinely undertake maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Supervise and train grounds people, trades people and apprentices
  • Manage and maintain stores and facilities, including stock control and record keeping.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for staff, students and visitors

About you

 

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:   

• The successful candidate would be someone who could work additional hours-if required
• Attend to repairs and maintenance within the school, including those which relate to furniture and equipment, locks and windows and general school facilities 
• Assist with a range of duties that include clearing and hosing of drains and walkways, regularly blowing leaf debris from footpaths etc
• Collection of waste, undertaking immediate action cleaning duties (outside the normal operating hours of the school's cleaning staff)
Assist with requirements for significant events such as sporting carnivals and general duties to assist the day-to-day operations and security of St Anthony's School, Kedron
• Safely operate and maintain small machinery and plant, as required, considering the risk to self and others
• Collaborate with the Leadership Team and/or Line Manager to carry out regular inspections and repairs
• Assisting in the ordering and purchase of materials.
For this position you are not required to be Catholic, however support of the Catholic ethos of our school would be important.
• Must hold current drivers licence
• Previous experience in handyman and/or building maintenance will be highly regarded
• Well organised with the ability to be flexible as required  and work with limited direction and supervision
• Have the availability to work beyond the fixed-term contract end date

  • Currently hold or ability to obtain a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
