Summary
Support Defence students and their families by delivering specialised, on-site assistance that fosters wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement within the school community.

About the opportunity
In this position you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the integration of new Defence students into the school environment by fostering a sense of belonging and connection.
- Providing age-appropriate social and emotional support to Defence students that complements and enhances existing school-based services.
- Informing Defence families about the school environment and connecting them with relevant Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) programs that support student development.
- Raising awareness and building capacity among school staff to respond to the social and emotional needs of students from Defence families by sharing insights into the Defence lifestyle, its impacts, and available supports through the Defence School Mentor Program (DSMP) and DMFS.
- Demonstrating a strong understanding of the Defence lifestyle and developing meaningful relationships with Defence students to foster trust and engagement.
- Utilising software applications to process and maintain accurate records, drafting, updating, and formatting standard documents, and handling sensitive information with discretion under the guidance of senior team members.
- Responding to enquiries promptly and accurately, resolving concerns, and recording correspondence in line with established procedures.
- Establishing collaborative relationships across the school community to support the wellbeing and success of Defence students.
About you
To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:
- Supporting Defence students and families through inclusive, on-site assistance
- Providing age-appropriate social and emotional support aligned with school services
- Using software systems to manage records and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Demonstrating understanding of the Defence community and its impact on student wellbeing
- Holding relevant qualifications or experience in education, youth work, or community support
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work within Australia for the period of appointment
- Currently hold or ability to obtain Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement
- Current/valid Queensland Driver’s Licence, if required.
