Summary
Support Defence students and their families by delivering specialised, on-site assistance that fosters wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement within the school community.

- Salary: School Officer Level 4 - $36.98/hour + super

About the opportunity
St Peter Claver College, Riverview is currently seeking a Senior Defence School Mentor. This position provides advanced, proactive support to Defence students and families, and contributes to whole‑school capability by coordinating Defence‑related initiatives, mentoring peers, and strengthening school responses to the social and emotional impacts of Defence life.
In this position you will be responsible for:
- Coordinating Defence student support across the school, acting as a key point of contact for complex or high‑needs Defence student matters
- Leading the planning and delivery of targeted programs or initiatives that support the wellbeing, engagement, and transition of Defence students.
- Providing guidance and informal mentoring to other school staff or support officers in understanding the Defence lifestyle and its impact on students.
- Strengthening partnerships with Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS), external agencies, and BCE stakeholders to enhance student and family outcomes.
- Contributing to school‑wide planning, policies, or practices that improve inclusive support for Defence students and families.
- Monitoring trends and emerging needs of Defence students and providing advice to school leadership to inform proactive responses.
- Exercising increased autonomy and judgement in managing sensitive matters, escalating issues appropriately, and contributing to solutions.
About you
To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:
- Supporting Defence students and families through inclusive, on-site assistance
- Providing age-appropriate social and emotional support aligned with school services
- Using software systems to manage records and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Demonstrating understanding of the Defence community and its impact on student wellbeing
- Holding relevant qualifications or experience in education, youth work, or community support
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work within Australia for the period of appointment
- Currently hold or ability to obtain Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement
- Current/valid Queensland Driver’s Licence, if required.
