About the opportunity
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Science Laboratory Technician to join our team.
You will provide Science teaching staff with high level of assistance and support for classroom activities, a strong background in Chemistry would be highly desirable. You will be required to work autonomously, applying sound judgement and in-depth knowledge for the efficient operation of the Science Laboratory.
Through your well-developed laboratory skills, you will plan and select appropriate equipment, techniques and organise work for students.
You will have previous laboratory experience, ideally in a school environment along with great communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with staff and students.
Qualifications in Laboratory techniques, technology or services, or equivalent knowledge, qualifications and experience are highly regarded.
In this position you will be responsible for:
- Providing a wide range of operational support to the Science Department
- Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of science practicums/experiments consistent with the science curriculum
- Responsibility for stock and the issuing of expendable stores including recording stock levels and the distribution of equipment, delivery dockets, invoices and payment vouchers
- Assisting with maintaining and dispensing solutions of known concentration, chemical mixtures, compounds and cultures or similar materials
- Establish and maintain filing and records management systems, including registers and databases
- Working unsupervised in a school science lab
- Cordinating the use of scientific equipment and chemicals
- Applying Workplace Health and Safety standards
- Providing some in class support to teaching staff during practical activities.
About you
To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:
- Provided operational support to a department or organisation
- Knowledge of science curriculum and lab procedures
- Stock management including inventory control, record-keeping, and procurement
- Experience in the safe handling and dispensing of chemicals and biological materials
- Proficiency in filing, database management, and maintaining accurate records
- For this position you are not required to be Catholic.
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
- Hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
