Summary
We are seeking a capable and forward-thinking Financial Accountant to join Financial Accounting Services at a time of important transformation. This role will support reliable financial accounting, strong reporting disciplines, practical school-facing guidance and continuous improvement across BCE’s finance systems, processes and controls. The successful applicant will bring strong technical accounting capability, curiosity, sound judgement and a service mindset, helping to strengthen financial integrity while supporting scalable and consistent ways of working across schools and BCE teams.
Reporting to the Manager – Financial Accounting Services, the role helps ensure BCE financial records and reporting are accurate, complete and timely. It also supports process improvement, finance system enhancements, and practical guidance for schools and internal stakeholders. The role will help shape more consistent, digitally enabled and school-focused finance services across BCE.

About the opportunity
The Financial Accountant will contribute to a broad financial accounting service across BCE, with a strong focus on transformation, process maturity, financial control, systems capability and school-facing service delivery. Key requirements of the role include:
- Deliver high-quality financial accounting support that strengthens the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of BCE financial records, reconciliations, reporting outputs and supporting workpapers
- Support month-end, year-end, audit, financial statement, acquittal, grant reporting and accountability processes through clear analysis, evidence and practical resolution of issues
- Contribute to the review, improvement and documentation of financial processes, controls, policies, procedures and work instructions to support consistent and scalable service delivery
- Use BCE finance systems, reporting tools and data analysis to identify trends, exceptions, root causes, process gaps and opportunities to reduce manual workarounds
- Provide practical technical support across relevant financial accounting, tax, compliance, general ledger, grants, acquittals, loan reporting and reporting activities
- Support transformation of the Financial Accounting Services operating model by contributing to clearer service pathways, standardised documentation, stronger controls and improved school support.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with schools, Finance teams, Procurement, Planning and Construction, internal and external audit stakeholders and other BCE teams
- Model BCE values and contribute to a professional, collaborative and school-focused team culture that supports Catholic Identity, safeguarding, accountability and continuous improvement
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong blend of technical accounting capability, systems confidence, service orientation and improvement mindset. You will demonstrate:
- Degree qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce, business management or a similar relevant field, with CA or CPA qualification, or progress towards professional qualification, highly regarded
- Demonstrated financial accounting experience in a large, complex and high-volume organisation, with strong disciplines in reconciliations, general ledger integrity, financial records and reporting quality
- Strong understanding of accounting controls, month-end and year-end processes, audit support, reporting evidence and financial accountability requirements
- Confidence working with ERP, general ledger and reporting systems, with experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, Excel, VBA or comparable tools highly regarded
- Demonstrated ability to interrogate financial data, identify anomalies, investigate root causes and communicate evidence-based recommendations clearly
- Experience contributing to process improvement, efficiency enhancement, system uplift, documentation, internal control improvement, training materials or service standardisation
- Ability to translate technical accounting, compliance and process requirements into clear, practical and school-focused guidance for a range of stakeholders
- Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to prioritise competing deadlines, work collaboratively and support change in a service-oriented environment
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
- Ability to obtain a National Criminal History check prior to commencement
