About our team
The Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Team at BCE is dedicated to fostering and maintaining safe and healthy environments for employees, students, and visitors across schools and office locations. They offer expert advice and guidance on health, safety, and wellbeing to key internal stakeholders, managing projects to ensure compliance and cultivate a positive workplace culture. The team collaborates with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote positive behavioural change throughout BCE, and they support rehabilitation and return-to-work initiatives.

You'll play a key role in developing and enhancing operational processes and system improvements, ensuring continuous growth and efficiency. The Health and Safety Officer provides workplace health and safety advice, services, and support to assist BCEO and primary school clients in fulfilling their obligations under health and safety legislation. working collaboratively within the health and safety team, this role contributes to the development and promotion of a positive safety culture across the organisation.

About the opportunity
In this position you will be responsible for:
- Providing general advice on technical, operational and administrative legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Partner with school leaders and safety personnel to monitor WHS performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to align WHS practices with legislative and organisational goals.
- Contributing to the development of operational and administrative processes and system reporting requirements, including preparing business documents and reports.
- Advise on contractor management processes and participate in meetings to ensure WHS compliance and best practice.
- Analyse incident trends, provide timely feedback on hazards and controls, and contribute to periodic WHS reporting and strategic planning.
- Contributing to problem-solving initiatives, and handling complex issues within delegated authority where precedents and procedures are not clearly defined.
- Maintain and evaluate WHS risk registers, support implementation of audit and incident review outcomes, and liaise with WHS Queensland Inspectors as required.
About you
To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and fire safety regulations.
- Creating accurate documentation with a high attention to detail.
- Stakeholder engagement ensuring information flow in a timely and inclusive manner.
- Providing information to a range of internal and external stakeholders in response to direct queries.
- Investigating issues and concerns and providing advice and information in line with policy and procedures
- Proven experience in a similar WHS role within a large, decentralised organisation.
- Degree in health and safety or equivalent experience.
- Fire Safety Advisor qualification (or willingness to obtain).
Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:
- Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
- Positive Notice Blue Card for working with Children.
