About our team 
The Payroll Team at Brisbane Catholic Education ensures timely and accurate fortnightly payroll including Single Touch Payroll and Superannuation for more than 13,000 staff members across our 146 school and office locations. The team also provides external third -party services to Archdiocese of Cairns. They are committed to addressing inquiries and providing exceptional customer service and advice in accordance with legislation, policies, and agreements for all payroll-related matters.

Summary

We’re seeking a detail‑oriented and customer‑focused Payroll Services Officer to support the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services across BCE schools and offices. In this role, you’ll manage high‑volume payroll processing, provide clear and responsive advice to employees, and contribute to maintaining a smooth, compliant and efficient payroll function. You’ll work as part of a supportive team, using your strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgement and attention to detail to ensure employees are paid correctly and payroll operations run seamlessly.

About the opportunity

In this position you will:  

  • Process high‑volume payroll accurately, efficiently and within required timeframes
  • Provide timely and reliable advice to employees regarding payroll, entitlements, awards, agreements and BCE policies
  • Prioritise, organise and manage workload effectively to meet strict deadlines and operational demands
  • Interpret and apply payroll legislation, procedures and industrial instruments with accuracy and consistency
  • Analyse payroll data, identify issues, and contribute recommendations to improve processes and resolve problems
  • Maintain confidentiality, sensitivity and professionalism when handling payroll information and enquiries
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient, accurate payroll operations and support continuous improvement
  • Assist with training and supporting new or less‑experienced team members and engage in ongoing professional development

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:    

  • Having a strong attention to detail.   
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions
  • Experience in a similar position and possess strong problem-solving skills.  
  • Ability to prioritise workload and tasks, undertaking initial investigations, and resolving issues in a timely manner.    
  • Strong communication skills to respond to enquiries.  
  • Working closely with a senior staff to provide administrative assistance.   
  • Tertiary qualifications in business administration, human resources, accounting or related fields (preferred)
  • Experience in end‑to‑end payroll processing or similar administration role

  

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:  

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment  
  • Ability to obtain a National Criminal History check prior to commencement.
