About our team 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education is part of Student Learning and Wellbeing function, offering support to schools to enhance outcomes for First Nations students and to create the conditions for all BCE staff to develop their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capabilities. The First Nations team provide holistic support for schools in implementing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content and cross curriculum priorities in the Australian curriculum, engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities, supporting schools in the Reconciliation Action Planning cycle, leading schools to create culturally safe environments and supporting First Nations students to achieve, feel valued, have a sense of belonging and pride in their cultural identity.  The First Nations team also supports BCE staff in understanding and engaging with reconciliation initiatives, acknowledging, and celebrating significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events and anniversaries, reflecting on and challenging attitudes,  perspectives and practices to create more inclusive organisational environments and processes reflective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives, ways of working and ways of knowing. 


 

 

 

Summary

Brisbane Catholic Education is seeking two Senior Education Advisers – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education to provide strategic, system‑wide leadership in advancing culturally responsive practice and improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across Prep to Year 12. These influential roles support the implementation of BCE’s Molum Sabe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategy by partnering with schools, office teams and community stakeholders to build staff cultural capability, embed First Nations perspectives across curriculum and practice, and strengthen student learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes.

About the opportunity

In this position you will:  

  • Lead and advise on the system‑wide implementation of the Molum Sabe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategy
  • Provide high‑level strategic advice to influence policy, organisational practices and system priorities
  • Act as a subject matter expert in culturally responsive education, cultural safety and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives
  • Partner with schools to support curriculum design, professional learning and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support 
  • Analyse data and research to inform evidence‑based recommendations 
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and stakeholders
  • Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student voice, mentoring, pathways and vocational education initiatives
  • Build staff capability across schools and office teams through targeted professional learning and resource development

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:   

  • Strong experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and education contexts
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous knowledges systems, cultures, histories, languages and identities
  • Experience in developing the cultural capabilities of non-First Nations staff through evidence based and co-design approaches
  • Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, First Nations content in the curriculum and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education initiatives
  • Proven ability to build trust and credibility with school leaders, educators and community stakeholders
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of briefings, reports and presentations
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, reflection and strengthening culturally responsive practice 
  • Tertiary qualifications in education or related field and/or previous experience in a similar position would be highly regarded

  • Eligibility to work in Australia
  • Full registration with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) or Positive Notice Blue Card 
  • Valid QLD Drivers License
