About our team 
Student Protection Team work in partnership with staff across BCE to build student protection capability, embed and advance safe and supportive learning environments for students. 

The team provides strategic and operational advice and support; develops training solutions and resources; develops, reviews and monitors student protection systems and process to ensure they are in line with legislation and regulations to enable BCE staff to recognise, report and respond to student protection concerns. The team also actively facilitates student participation in creating & strengthening safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students (BCE Student Voice Program). 

 

Summary

 

Showcase your ability as the Senior Student Proection Advisor, driving organisational change through process improvements. Reporting to the Manager – Professional Standards and Student Protection and working under the direction of the Senior Advisor, this role is pivotal in supporting school communities to uphold the safety and wellbeing of students. You will provide expert advice, consultancy, and capacity-building support to school leaders and staff across our network.

  • Salary: $133,553 - $148,385 plus super

About the opportunity

In this position you will be responsible for: 

  • Provide student protection advice and support to Senior Leaders – School Progress and Performance, Principals, Student Protection Contacts and school staff.
  • Build capability of school leadership teams, Student Protection Contacts and Guidance Counsellors to respond to and manage student protection matters in schools. This includes but not limited to the development of resources and delivery of specialist training. 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to plan and develop overall preventative and risk management strategies in relation to student protection matters. 
  • Undertake reviews of practice, policies, processes and procedures and other key BCE initiatives and guidelines with a student protection lens. 
  • Support development of key initiatives and programs that empower students to use their voice to seek support and participate in the development of safeguarding strategies in BCE. 
  • Support Principals, Student Protection Contacts, and staff in managing and reporting student protection matters.
    Deliver specialist training and develop resources to build capacity across school communities.

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:   

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in providing leadership and support to senior staff in child protection matters. 
  • Trauma informed care principles & approach - knowledge, skills and confidence in this area. 
  • Knowledge of theoretical perspectives that relate to child protection and the ability to incorporate into advice to school staff to risk manage in a school environment. 
  • Experience in delivering high quality advice to senior staff regarding child protection matters, with the Knowledge skills & confidence in capability building such as coaching, facilitation skills, mentoring both online and in person. 
  • High level communication skills including the ability to address emotional responses such as distress, fear and anxiety of school staff exposed to distressing student protection matters. 
  • Experience in developing resources and delivering child protection training and ability to tailor advice to the needs of the staff seeking student protection advice and guidance. 
  • Experience in working positively and collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Tertiary qualifications in applied social or behavioural sciences such as social work or psychology 
  • Current drivers licence  

 

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements: 

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.
  • Positive Notice Blue Card for working with Children.
