About our team 
The School Finance Support Team offers expert financial advice to school leadership and finance staff, providing valuable guidance and recommendations on financial performance, forecasting, and planning.  The team prepares comprehensive financial guidelines and templates tailored for school use, conducts thorough financial reviews, and assists with financial acquittals to ensure accuracy and compliance.  We also coordinate state and commonwealth census submissions, support the development of robust school finance systems, and offer professional development opportunities to enhance financial skills and provided dedicated finance help desk support.

Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Support Accountant to partner with school leaders and finance teams, providing strategic and operational financial advice that strengthens financial stewardship, improves systems, and supports the long‑term sustainability of schools across the BCE network. This role is ideal for a commercially minded accountant who enjoys analysis, problem‑solving, and working closely with stakeholders to drive meaningful outcomes.

  • Salary: $137,561 - $152,836 plus super

About the opportunity

In this position you will: 

  • Provide trusted financial advice to principals and school leadership teams on financial operating performance, budgets and forecasts
  • Analyse financial data to challenge assumptions, identify risks and opportunities, and support strategic decision‑making
  • Develop and review financial practices, controls, and processes to ensure compliance with internal requirements and external audit
  • Prepare high‑level reports and financial papers to support projects, reviews, and policy development
  • Undertake internal financial reviews and support external reviews, ensuring improvement actions are implemented
  • Build strong relationships across schools and corporate teams to improve performance, efficiency, and financial sustainability

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:   

  • Solid experience in accounting, financial analysis, and advisory roles, ideally within a complex or multi‑site environment
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into clear, practical advice for non-finance stakeholders
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders to influence outcomes and support sound financial decisions through the preparation of reports and recommendations
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce, business and/or previous experience in a similar position is essential
  • Professional membership with CA/CPA or equivalent is mandatory
