About our team 
The Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Team at BCE is dedicated to fostering and maintaining safe and healthy environments for employees, students, and visitors across schools and office locations. They offer expert advice and guidance on health, safety, and wellbeing to key internal stakeholders, managing projects to ensure compliance and cultivate a positive workplace culture. The team collaborates with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote positive behavioural change throughout BCE, and they support rehabilitation and return-to-work initiatives.

Summary

An exciting fixed-term opportunity has become available for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Lead to support the ongoing delivery of BCE’s HSW priorities until the end of 2026.
 
This role plays a critical part in leading the day-to-day delivery of HSW services, partnering with schools and office teams to ensure consistent, practical application of our HSW Management System and to strengthen safety culture across BCE.
 
Working as part of the HSW Leadership Team, you will balance operational leadership, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement, ensuring initiatives are implemented effectively and deliver meaningful outcomes.

  • Salary: $155,351 - $172,606 plus super

About the opportunity

In this position you will:
  • Lead and support a team of HSW Partners/Offices, providing clear direction, prioritisation and coaching
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders, managers, and operational teams
  • Drive the consistent implementation of HSW systems, processes and procedures across schools and offices
  • Lead the delivery of key HSW priorities, ensuring work progresses at pace and aligns to organisational direction
  • Act as the escalation point for serious incidents and regulatory engagement
  • Monitor safety performance and lead audits, inspections, and investigations
  • Build HSW capability and confidence through coaching, communication and engagement
 
This role will require a strong focus on translating system intent into practical, usable approaches that schools and teams can implement with confidence.

About you

We are seeking a capable and credible HSW professional who brings:
  • Demonstrated experience in operational health and safety leadership, including leading or coordinating a team, ideally in a complex or multi-site environment
  • Strong ability to build relationships and influence across a diverse stakeholder group
  • Practical experience in applying safety systems, processes and risk management approaches
  • A track record of delivering outcomes and progressing work in a complex environment
  • Confidence in providing clear, balanced advice to leaders
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with a strong focus on service and partnership
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field (highly regarded but not essential)
 
While alignment to strategy is important, this role will suit someone who is energised by delivery, building relationships, and supporting others to implement effectively.
