About our team 
Student Protection Team work in partnership with staff across BCE to build student protection capability, embed and advance safe and supportive learning environments for students. 

The team provides strategic and operational advice and support; develops training solutions and resources; develops, reviews and monitors student protection systems and process to ensure they are in line with legislation and regulations to enable BCE staff to recognise, report and respond to student protection concerns. The team also actively facilitates student participation in creating & strengthening safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students (BCE Student Voice Program). 

 

Summary

As a Senior Advisor – Student Protection, you will play a critical system-level role in safeguarding students across Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) schools. Providing expert advice and high‑level consultancy, you will support Principals and school leaders to respond to complex student protection matters with confidence, care and legal compliance. This role combines deep subject matter expertise with strong stakeholder engagement to strengthen consistent, trauma‑informed practice across the system.

  • Salary: $137,560 - $152,119 plus super

About the opportunity

 

In this position you will:   

  • Provide expert, system‑level student protection advice to BCE schools, supporting Principals and leaders to manage complex matters through timely, student centred, trauma‑informed and legally compliant responses
  • Lead high‑level consultation on suspected and substantiated harm, including assessment of risk, mandatory reporting obligations, and engagement with statutory authorities
  • Guide schools through disclosures, investigations and interventions, ensuring consistent application of legislation, policy and professional practice
  • Research, interpret and communicate legislative, regulatory and practice developments to drive best practice and continuous improvement across the system
  • Design, review and deliver student protection training, policies, procedures, resources and guidance to strengthen safeguarding and system assurance
  • Build strong partnerships with school leadership, internal stakeholders and external agencies to support coordinated, holistic responses for students and families
  • Support schools to meet compliance requirements, including Safeguarding plans, documentation and record‑keeping
  • Build capability across the system by contributing to professional learning, preventative initiatives and programs that promote student voice, safety and wellbeing  

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:   

  • Extensive experience in student protection, child safeguarding, or a closely related statutory or regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high‑level advice on complex, sensitive and high‑risk matters
  • Strong knowledge of legislative, regulatory and mandatory reporting obligations within Queensland
  • Proven capability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders, schools and external agencies
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and confidently
  • A collaborative, solutions‑focused approach and the ability to work effectively across diverse stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, human services, behavioural science or a related discipline
  • Current drivers licence as travel to schools will be required 

 

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements: 

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment 
  • Positive Notice Blue Card for working with Children.
