About our team 
The Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Team at BCE is dedicated to fostering and maintaining safe and healthy environments for employees, students, and visitors across schools and office locations. They offer expert advice and guidance on health, safety, and wellbeing to key internal stakeholders, managing projects to ensure compliance and cultivate a positive workplace culture. The team collaborates with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote positive behavioural change throughout BCE, and they support rehabilitation and return-to-work initiatives.

Step into the dynamic role of Senior Health Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Systems Advisor, where your critical thinking and passion for pioneering new approaches will be at the heart of everything you do. In this position, you’ll spearhead the evolution of BCE’s HSW Management System (HSWMS), championing fresh and innovative approaches in policy, procedure, and resource development. Your expertise will be instrumental in weaving health, safety, and wellbeing seamlessly into our daily operations, reducing risk, and fostering a vibrant culture of continuous improvement. About the opportunity

In this position you will:

  • Provide strategic advice and lead HSW projects to develop policy, influence direction, and drive operational outcomes
  • Analyse data to challenge and negotiate perspectives on complex HSW issues, delivering recommendations
  • Prepare specialised and technical reports and committee papers on significant projects, research, or policy development
  • Build capability across business areas to enhance operational performance and efficiencies
  • Design, review, and oversee implementation of the HSW Framework, policies, and procedures to improve compliance with legal obligations and external standards
  • Develop and manage practical HSW resources and a robust audit program to ensure legislative requirements are met, staff are well-informed, and compliance aligns with internal and external standards
  • Identify and address emerging risks and legislative changes, providing expert technical advice to embed HSW in daily operations and support BCE’s objectives

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:    

  • Writing HSW policies, procedures and resources
  • Leading a variety of projects to meet operational outcomes
  • Analytical in your approach to problem solving
  • Ability to build capability and foster a culture of safety and wellbeing
  • Accredited WHS Auditor qualification or near completion (preferable)
  • Written specialised reports and committee papers on projects you have led
  • Worked with multiple stakeholders and leadership teams in your area of specialty
  • Tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety or a related field and/or previous experience in a similar position (highly regarded but not essential)

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:  

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment. 
  • Positive Notice Blue Card for working with Children.    
  • Current Queensland Driver’s Licence or ability to travel to schools as required.
